July Book Club Summary and August Book Announcement

On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the HLAA-TC book club met to discuss the book “Blind Rage: Letters to Helen Keller” by Georgina Kleege and we were honored to be joined by author Georgina Kleege. Ms. Kleege talked to us via Zoom (all book clubs are held on Zoom and that gives us the opportunity to have guests and participants join us from all over). It was a small and intimate session that allowed for all participants to be able to ask questions about the book, blindness and Helen Keller. Thank you to Georgina Kleege for graciously giving her time to be with us and providing a wealth of knowledge and insight on blindness, disability and Helen Keller.

Our next book club is Tuesday, August 22nd at 7:00 pm (Central Time) and we will be discussing “The Silent World of Nicholas Quinn” by Colin Dexter. It is from the Inspector Morse series and was actually episode 2 of season 1, back in 1987 (adapted from the book into the TV show).

Description of the “The Silent World of Nicholas Quinn” on Amazon: “Nicholas Quinn is deaf, so he considers himself lucky to be appointed to the Foreign Examinations Board at Oxford, which designs tests for students of English around the world. But when someone slips cyanide into Nicholas’s sherry, Inspector Morse has a multiple-choice murder. Any one of a tight little group of academics could have killed Quinn. Before Morse is done, all their dirty little secrets will be exposed. And a murderer will be cramming for his finals. . . . “
The meeting will be captioned. It will start at 7:00 pm and end around 8:30 pm (central time). (All meetings are free and open to HLAA members or non-members.)
